Generating Electricity Project (Local Landscapes)

  • Wind turbine

The teacher guide and lesson resource introduces students to how we generate electricity along the Severn estuary. Students will enjoy finding out about the wind farm at Avonmounth, the nuclear power station at Oldbury and Seabank gas-fired power station. Students can then design and build their own wind turbine, which with the right equipment can generate electricity.

What is the educational case for construction projects?

  • Students can use the variety of local electricity power stations to develop their understanding of how we generate the electricity we use.
  • Students can design, make, test and evaluate their designs.
  • Students can work together to problem solve.
