Oldbury Power Station

Oldbury nuclear power station operated from 1967 and was one of four near the mouth of the River Severn alongside Berkeley, Hinkley Point A and Hinkley Point B. Although Oldbury ceased operations in 2012, the importance of the area for energy generation is set to continue with plans for a new nuclear power station at Shepperdine.

Birdwatching

The silt ponds on the site of Oldbury nuclear power station now contain large areas of reedbed and offer excellent opportunities for birdwatching.

Soundscape

One of David Howell’s most enchanting soundscapes was recorded in and around the power station.
