A Forgotten Landscape will provide funding to landowners for conservation management of hedgerows and willows. Find out more about conserving the landscape here.
Willow pollarding grant scheme
This new grant scheme will be available to land owners for the pollarding of willows, to help maintain the life of the tree and also the character of their local landscape for current and future generations to enjoy.
The grant will run throughout the life of A Forgotten Landscape project and will be conditional on a farm site visit by the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) South West.
The project aims to maintain 281 willow trees using pollarding, a traditional form of tree management, preserving both this historic technique and the local landscape.
The grants will also provide an economic boost to skilled local contractors undertaking pollarding work, and the opportunity to use the offcuts to provide wood, fuel and materials for traditional crafts locally.

The project aims to restore 2,000 metres of hedgerow through laying, coppicing or gapping up.
