People have interacted with this landscape since the end of the last Ice Age when rising waters from the melting of the ice caps inundated the land and created the River Severn.

This has resulted in exceptional preservation of the landscape, which provides us with an opportunity to study the impact the changing environment had on humans and how they adapted to these changes.
