Rediscovering the ‘Lawrence Weston’s lost orchard’

On Sunday 25th February a few brave volunteers practiced their pruning skills in the ‘lost orchard’ near Lawrence Weston Community Farm. Out of the wind, amongst the brambles and trees, it was very pleasant work!

Thanks to Bristol City Council for organizing the day and Green Mantle Limited for taking on so much of the bramble earlier this month which made it a lot easier to get to beautiful old fruit trees.

The ‘lost orchard’ is clearly many years old and has several kinds of apples, pears and cherries, but it’s been unloved and untended for a while.  We’re helping to support a group of people to give it the care it needs to bring it back to peak health and if you are interested in helping please contact Katie at 01454 863 043 or at katie.scaife@southglos.gov.uk.
